History of human rights in north korea
The Korean War led up to the split of North and South Korea. It was split down the 38th parallel. The north wanted to be communist, but the south wanted to be a right wing government. Since 1953 they have been two different countries. Kim Jong-Il was the supreme ruler at this time. When he died, Kim Jong-Un came into power.
North Korea has been making nuclear weapons, so most countries, other then China, will not trade with them. They are making sanctions on the county. This makes it hard for them to get much of anything. Because of Kim Jong-Un’s stubbornness, the people are starving to death and getting worked harder and harder, making it hard to live on what they have. This is a contributor of why their army is so big. It's the only way you get fed, and it's easier to make a living. (Other times in history you have seen this is when Hitler came to rule and he had the Nazi party to support him. Also this is why human rights awareness started, because of the Holocaust.)
The way the people live in North Korea is very harsh. They make very little money but the prices of food is sky-rocketing. It makes it hard to get and buy food to live off of. Over time your body starts to fight against you, showing bone and your skin becomes very splotchy. Women in North Korea buy beauty products to make themselves look better if they have the extra money, because of how their skin looks. The only country that will trade with North Korea is China. North Korea wants to be self dependent, but they do need goods from other places. China is the only one they are willing to trade with stating that they do have a border shared with China.
